The meeting was called to order at 6:06 p.m.

 

NEW BUSINESS:

 

1)         APPOINTMENT OF OFFICERS:

 

MOTION BY M. SMITH, SECOND BY B. HUNT, to approve the following appointments:

 

                        Donald Rockwell, President

                        Michael Smith, Vice-President

 

VOICE VOTE:           MOTION CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY

 

MOTION BY D. ROCKWELL, SECOND BY M. SMITH, to appoint Beverly Hunt as Secretary of the Civil Service Commission.

 

VOICE VOTE:           MOTION CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY

 

APPROVAL/CORRECTION OF MINUTES:  REG. MTG. 11/27/07

 

MOTION BY B. HUNT, SECOND BY M. SMITH, to approve the minutes of the November 27, 2007 meeting with one correction of removing from page one under “Members Present: (M. Smith (New Member).

 

VOICE VOTE:           MOTION CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY

 

2)         ASSIGN 2007 CIVIL SERVICE ANNUAL REPORT

 

MOTION BY D. ROCKWELL, SECOND BY M. SMITH, to assign the 2007 Civil Service Annual Report to Secretary Beverly Hunt.

 

VOICE VOTE:           MOTION CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY

 

3)         AUTHORIZE CLERK TO ORDER NEW LETTERHEAD FOR CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION AND MAKE NECESSARY CHANGES.

 

MOTION BY M. SMITH, SECOND BY D. ROCKWELL, to authorize the Clerk to order new letterhead for the Civil Service Commission and make necessary changes.

 

VOICE VOTE:           MOTION CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY

 

4)         DIRECT CLERK TO PUBLISH NOTICE TO HIRE FOR ENTRY LEVEL POLICE OFFICERS

 

MOTION BY B. HUNT, SECOND BY M. SMITH, to direct the Clerk to publish that the Civil Service Commission will be taking applications for the positions of entry level police officer for two weeks in the Flint Journal due February 20, 2008 at 4:00 p.m.

 

VOICE VOTE:           MOTION CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY

 

The written test has tentatively been set for Wednesday, March 5, 2008 at 9:00 a.m.

with the location, depending on the number of applications received.

 

Fire fighter entry-level examination testing will be discussed at the next meeting.

The meeting was called to order at 6:00 p.m.

 

APPROVAL/CORRECTION OF MINUTES:        REG. MTG. 01/29/08

 

MOTION BY B. HUNT, SECOND BY M. SMITH, to approve the minutes of the regular meeting dated January 29, 2008 as presented.

 

VOICE VOTE:           MOTION CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY

 

ACTION ITEMS:

 

NEW BUSINESS:

 

1)         SCHEDULE FIRE FIGHTER ENTRY LEVEL EXAMINATION

 

Acting Fire Chief Mark Rowley indicated that he would like to review and possibly suggest changes in the qualifications required to take the entry level firefighter examination.

 

D. Rockwell indicated that the Civil Service Commission would welcome his input.  Therefore this agenda item will be postponed until the next meeting whereupon Chief Rowley will address the Commission with his suggestions regarding the qualifications for entry level firefighter.  There were no objections.

 

OLD BUSINESS:

 

1)         UPDATE ON POLICE ENTRY LEVEL EXAMINATION

 

From the 121 applications received 104 applicants will be tested on Wednesday, March 5, 2008 located at the Flint Township Police Community Room.  As each applicant leaves they will be scheduled for their “oral interview.”  The oral interviews will be conducted from March 10th thru March 28th  2008 allowing ten interviews per day 35 minutes per interview.

 

Lt Battencoff reviewed some of the questions that will be asked and how they will be scored.

 

B. Hunt indicated that an alternate test date for the written portion of the examination needed to be considered for those candidates who will not be able to attend on March 5, 2008.

 

The Commissioners agreed upon Friday, March 7, 2008 at 8:30 a.m. located at the Police Community Room as the alternate date and time for the written portion of the examination.
